Singapore Police Sound the Alarm on Housing Scam

In a shocking update, Singaporean authorities are alerting citizens about a dangerous new scam that misleadingly promotes a so-called "Johor-Singapore housing subsidy." This scam has been gaining traction online, particularly on social media platforms like Facebook.

Victims are lured in by enticing advertisements claiming a collaboration between the Singapore and Johor governments, promising subsidized housing under an enticingly named "JBSG Housing Subsidy Program" or "Free Homes Across the Causeway." They feature fraudulent links inviting users to apply for this phony scheme.

In an alarming twist, some of these fraudulent documents even include fake signatures of the Prime Ministers of Singapore and Malaysia. According to the police, these documents articulate a grand goal to "deepen economic integration" while purporting that luxurious units in Iskandar Puteri will be sold at incredibly low, welfare-subsidized rates.

Once individuals click on the links provided, they find themselves directed to WhatsApp, where scammers await to ensnare them in further deception. Victims are then prompted to fill out personal information—like their Singapore ID, address, and email—in what appears to be an application process.

To make matters worse, the scammers may trick victims into transferring money online for legal and stamp duties or even demanding cash in person from unsuspecting individuals.

The Singapore Police Force has issued a stern warning: DO NOT engage with these scams! The information circulating about this housing initiative is entirely false, and providing personal details can lead to further fraudulent activities.

Stay Safe: Protect Yourself from Scams!

As these scams become increasingly sophisticated, it’s crucial for everyone to remain vigilant. Always verify offers through official channels and never disclose personal information or send money to unverified sources. Stay informed and protect your hard-earned money!
