In the unpredictable world of acting, opportunities can dry up fast. TVB actor Benjamin Yuen knows this struggle all too well, revealing that his on-screen appearances have significantly dwindled.
At 43, Benjamin recently opened up about his sparse roles over the past few years during an interview, where he candidly shared that he only starred in two dramas in 2024—"No Room For Crime" and "Forensic Heroes 6," with critics suggesting he played merely a supporting character in the former.
In the past, Benjamin was a prolific actor, juggling three dramas a year alongside various variety shows. However, this fruitful chapter seems to have closed for the actor.
"It’s all up to the company’s decisions. There’s nothing I can do; this is the reality I face," he lamented.
Benjamin pointed to a major shift in TVB following a management overhaul, which saw key figures who once championed his career leave the network. "After the management reshuffle, the people who used to offer me roles all departed, and now I’m having to build my career from the ground up again," he explained.
This shift in strategy has also led TVB to focus more on collaborations with mainland Chinese platforms, resulting in fewer shows being produced annually. Benjamin finds himself only able to participate in one or two series each year, leading to a noticeable decline in his visibility.
Moreover, he isn't alone in this predicament, as many of his fellow artists are grappling with similar job scarcity.
Despite these challenges, rumors suggest that Benjamin isn’t contemplating a departure from TVB anytime soon. Fans are hopeful as the cliffhanger ending of "Forensic Heroes" hints at a potential return.
Insiders speculate that production for "Forensic Heroes 7" could commence by year's end, provided the network secures funding in time, making Benjamin’s return likely if it comes to fruition.
In the entertainment industry, patience is key, and for Benjamin Yuen, it seems the wait may just pay off.
