Japanese astronaut Kimiya Yui made waves this week by connecting with kids from Takacho in Hyogo Prefecture via amateur radio. "This marked a monumental first for me to speak with Japanese children during a mission!" Yui exclaimed on social media. Using amateur radio, a tool in use since the early 1980s aboard shuttles, astronauts can communicate with Earth without disrupting essential mission comms.

Yui expressed the joy of these interactions: "I gained energy from speaking with the children, which helped me tackle my work with renewed vigor! Thank you all!"
