In a recent edition of Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, insiders revealed that Apple does not plan to refresh its Vision Pro lineup in 2025. Although there is speculation that the tech giant could potentially unveil a new headset ahead of a launch next year, it appears that a significant update, the Vision Pro 2, will instead debut in 2026.
Interestingly, Gurman highlights a more pressing ambition for Apple: the development of a more affordable headset. There is an active push within the company to finalize this lower-cost model, which is ambitious and intended to make Apple's augmented reality technology accessible to a broader audience.
Contrary to this, well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had previously indicated that the Vision Pro 2 was set to go into production in the latter half of 2025, featuring an upgraded M5 chip and enhanced support for Apple Intelligence. However, Kuo also suggested that the low-cost headset would be delayed until at least 2027.
Despite these mixed signals, Gurman’s take emphasizes the urgency Apple feels regarding the cheaper headset, codenamed N107, which is a crucial part of their development roadmap. As Apple strives to innovate, they are also exploring diverse product concepts, including a version of smart glasses similar to those offered by Meta Platforms and a new AirPods-like device equipped with cameras.
These future devices might be several years away from hitting the market, but important developments in 2023 are expected to lay the groundwork for these exciting advancements in immersive technology.
Moreover, the potential for an Apple iteration of the Meta Ray-Ban glasses, as well as camera-integrated AirPods, indicates a strategic move towards blending wearable technologies with augmented reality experiences. Details on the timelines for these innovations remain murky, but all signs point to a robust future involving wearables in Apple's ecosystem.
Stay tuned as we continue to follow this story and uncover what Apple has in store for its ambitious foray into affordable augmented reality solutions and next-gen wearables.
