A Dire Situation for a Choa Chu Kang Resident
Life at Block 484B Choa Chu Kang Avenue 5 has become a daily struggle for one resident, as nuisances like bird droppings and litterbugs plague their living environment.
Stomper S and his family, who moved into the block this January, are frustrated by what they describe as "significant cleanliness problems". Among the numerous complaints, the overwhelming presence of pigeon droppings stands out.
Efforts to Address the Issues
Despite bringing the issue of bird droppings to the attention of the town council, the only advice received was to install spikes to deter pigeons from their air-conditioning ledge. Unfortunately, S notes that no concrete action has been taken against irresponsible neighbors who continuously feed the birds from their windows or downstairs.
In frustration, S has reached out through the OneService app repeatedly, submitting complaints during June and even contacting his MP, Mr. Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim, following an incident on August 4.
Neighborly Issues Add to the Frustration
In a formal complaint, S detailed a troubling event where his upstairs neighbor washed her air-conditioning ledge, causing dirty water and debris to spill onto his unit. Despite attempts to address this directly, the neighbor remained unresponsive.
S expressed his desire to maintain a positive relationship with neighbors but emphasized that this ongoing hygiene crisis is significantly distressing for his family. He demands actionable solutions to the bird droppings problem that has yet to be adequately addressed.
Town Council's Response to the Concerns
In July, a spokesperson for Chua Chu Kang Town Council acknowledged receiving feedback and stated that they had taken immediate steps to clean the affected area. Regular bird control measures have been implemented, with the last one occurring in early June.
Additionally, the council has intensified efforts to promote responsible behavior among residents by displaying posters and notices discouraging bird feeding and littering. The spokesperson assured that they would continue monitoring the situation closely.
Continued Challenges and a Call to Action
However, S remains skeptical about any real improvements. On September 5, he mentioned that people are still seen feeding birds through their windows, suggesting that the efforts haven't been effective.
As the battle rages on between residents and unwanted nuisances, it’s clear that the community needs to come together for a cleaner, fresher environment, rather than leave it to the authorities alone to resolve the ongoing issues.
