It’s hard to believe that while Charlie was experiencing persistent headaches for years, the real culprit—a grade II astrocytoma—was quietly growing in his brain. Initially, a 2011 MRI scan dismissed his suffering as a sinus infection, steering him to an optician but never delving deeper into his symptoms.

A Gruesome Discovery

Fast forward to 2022, after a seizure that left him in the care of paramedics, Charlie underwent another MRI. The hospital’s early reassurances quickly crumbled when a follow-up call weeks later delivered life-altering news: there was indeed something seriously amiss.

A Medical Oversight Revealed

Upon diagnosis, doctors admitted that a scan from over a decade ago had revealed the tumor, which had grown unnoticed all those years. Despite the grave oversight, Charlie praises the medical team for their candor and the care he received thereafter.

Battling Through Treatment

Charlie's journey has been nothing short of grueling. He has bravely undergone two surgeries to remove a significant portion of the tumor and embarked on six weeks of daily radiotherapy followed by six months of chemotherapy. Determined to make a difference, Siobhan has dedicated her efforts to fundraising for brain tumor research. Currently, she's gearing up for the '88 Squats a Day in July' challenge to spread awareness and support vital research efforts. While Charlie's current status appears stable, he acknowledges the unpredictable nature of his condition. "We're focusing on those six-month scans and embracing every moment with our two boys," he says, emphasizing his commitment to living life to the fullest despite the looming uncertainty.
