In a dramatic turn of events during the New York Yankees' 6-3 triumph over the Tampa Bay Rays, second baseman Jazz Chisholm found himself ejected after vehemently contesting a strikeout call by home-plate umpire John Bacon.

Just minutes after his fiery exit, Chisholm, or perhaps his social media manager, took to Twitter to vent his frustrations. He tweeted, "Not even [freaking] close!!!!!" before quickly hitting the delete button.

The controversial moment unfolded in the top of the seventh inning, where Chisholm faced left-handed pitcher Mason Montgomery with a full count. The pitch in question had a strikingly low called strike probability of just 19.3%. Ironically, earlier in the at-bat, Chisholm had benefitted from a ball call on a pitch that was deemed a strike 92.6% of the time.

After the game, Chisholm expressed regret over losing his composure. While he still felt the call was unjust, he recognized that his post-ejection remarks likely crossed a line. "I'm a competitor, so when I feel I’m right, I get fired up. I need to stay composed to help my team," he admitted.

According to New York Daily News beat writer Gary Phillips, Chisholm's tweet risks violating the MLB Players Association's strict social media policy. This 2023 guideline prohibits players from using electronic devices during games or posting content that questions the integrity of MLB umpires—an apparent rule Chisholm’s tweet directly contravened.

At 27, Chisholm's current stats show a batting line of .176/.273/.471 with six home runs and four stolen bases. Since being traded from the Miami Marlins last summer, he's contributed an estimated 1.0 Win Above Replacement. A former All-Star, his career average sits at an impressive 3.2 WAR per 162 games, proving he's more than capable of adding both power and speed to the Yankees' lineup.
