RALEIGH, N.C. – In a bold move, NC State's McMurray Family Director of Athletics, Boo Corrigan, has officially announced that Will Wade will be the new head coach of the NC State men’s basketball program. Known for his impressive track record, Wade comes with a wealth of experience, having led his last five teams to the NCAA Tournament.
Wade’s appointment is under a six-year agreement, pending approval from the NC State Board of Trustees. The formal introduction of Wade as the 21st head coach in NC State’s storied history is set for next Tuesday, with a live-streamed event at Reynolds Coliseum. Fans will have the chance to meet him during a photo opportunity starting at 3 pm at Coaches' Corner.
Expressing enthusiasm about the decision, Corrigan stated, “I went into this search with an open mind... But after speaking extensively with Will and those who know him well, I knew that he was the right leader for the Wolfpack.” Wade is celebrated for building meaningful relationships with his athletes and fostering accountability within his teams.
Wade himself couldn't hide his excitement, saying, “This is a destination job… and I can't wait to get started.” He acknowledged the team's rich tradition and passionate fan base, praising the picturesque location of Raleigh as a significant factor in his motivation.
NC State Chancellor Randy Woodson added, “Will is the perfect leader to guide the Pack basketball program to new heights,” highlighting Wade’s commitment to support and develop student-athletes.
A Nashville, Tennessee native, Wade previously coached at VCU, LSU, and McNeese, compiling eleven years of experience at the helm. He boasts an impressive history, including seven NCAA Tournament appearances and back-to-back Southland Conference championships at McNeese, where he achieved a remarkable 50-9 record over two seasons.
During his time at LSU from 2017 to 2022, Wade guided the Tigers to significant accomplishments, including a Southeastern Conference championship in 2019 and three consecutive NCAA Tournament berths. Wade’s coaching journey began at Chattanooga, where he quickly transformed the program into a competitive force in the Southern Conference. His record from 2013 to 2015 shows a clear dedication to success, earning accolades as the Southern Conference Coach of the Year.
Off the court, Will Wade is dedicated to his family; he is married to Lauren Deason, and together they have one daughter, Caroline.
