Get ready, movie buffs! Brad Pitt is reviving his iconic character Cliff Booth in a sequel to the beloved film *Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood*. But here’s the twist: Quentin Tarantino won’t be directing this time around. Instead, the legendary filmmaker is passing the baton to none other than David Fincher, known for his mastery in the director's chair.
Tarantino recently revealed on *The Church of Tarantino* podcast that he opted out of directing the sequel because he didn’t want his last film to be a sequel. He’s looking for new challenges, stating, "I’d love this script, but I’m still walking down the same ground I’ve already walked. It just kind of unenthused me. This last movie, I’ve got to not know what I’m doing again. I’ve got to be in uncharted territory."
And when it comes to handing over the reins to Fincher, Tarantino couldn’t be more enthusiastic. He commented, "I think me and David Fincher are the two best directors. So the idea that David Fincher actually wants to adapt my work shows a level of seriousness towards my work that I think can't be ignored."
After reports surfaced that the two directors had discussed the project, the movie’s cast has expanded to feature not just Pitt, but also Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Corey Fogelmanis, and JB Tadena. Exciting, right?
Adding to the intrigue, the film has secured a hefty $20 million California film tax credit, with Pitt announcing that filming is set to kick off in July. Could this be one of the most anticipated films of the year?
But that isn’t all Tarantino shared on the podcast. He also explained why he decided against making *The Movie Critic* his final film. Tarantino posed a bold challenge to himself: "Can I take the most boring profession in the world and make it an interesting movie?" He reflected, "Every Tarantino title promises so much, except The Movie Critic." So, what does this mean for fans? It looks like there’s plenty more groundbreaking cinema to come!
