In a game-changing development for air travel in Asia, Vietnam Airlines has officially restarted its direct flight service between Ho Chi Minh City and Hong Kong. This much-anticipated move is a significant milestone in the airline's mission to bolster international connections and represents a giant leap forward in their operational strategy.
The first flight, designated VN595, took off from Hong Kong en route to Ho Chi Minh City on March 30, reestablishing a key route after a hiatus of one year. This decision not only elevates Vietnam Airlines' status in the competitive international aviation landscape but also enhances travel options for discerning passengers.
To cater to surging travel demand, the airline will commence with one daily flight utilizing the modern Airbus A321. This service is designed to be a seamless passage for business travelers, leisure tourists, and individuals visiting family, effectively reinforcing the links between these two bustling Asian hubs.
Nguyen Minh Toan, Chief Representative of Vietnam Airlines in Hong Kong, highlighted the city's status as a vital financial, commercial, and aviation center in East Asia. Since the inception of flights from Vietnam to Hong Kong in November 1991, the airline has proudly transported over 5.7 million passengers across more than 46,000 flights to and from Hong Kong International Airport.
As part of a broader strategic plan set for 2025, Vietnam Airlines aims to restore and introduce 15 pivotal international routes, which will include destinations in Italy, Russia, Denmark, China, India, Japan, South Korea, and the UAE. The revival of the Hong Kong-Ho Chi Minh City route is anticipated to not only facilitate business and trade exchanges but also to bolster cultural ties between Vietnam and Hong Kong, while expanding outreach to other significant global markets.
A noteworthy economic aspect is that Hong Kong ranks as Vietnam’s fifth-largest foreign investor, with bilateral trade seeing impressive double-digit growth year-on-year. Additionally, Vietnamese tourism to Hong Kong is experiencing a significant surge, with visitor numbers in the first half of 2024 doubling compared to the same timeframe last year.
Currently, Vietnam Airlines boasts a total of seven round-trip flights weekly between Hong Kong and Hanoi. With the introduction of the Ho Chi Minh City route, the number of flights connecting Vietnam and Hong Kong will effectively double, making it more convenient than ever for travelers looking to explore these vibrant cities.
Starting from January 1, the airline has also launched its innovative Upstream Check-in (UCI) service at Hong Kong International Airport. This service allows passengers arriving from mainland China and Macau to check in easily while transiting through Hong Kong.
With this bold move, Vietnam Airlines is not only reopening borders but also paving the way for stronger economic, cultural, and personal connections between Vietnam and its regional partners! Don’t miss your chance to be part of this exciting journey—book your tickets today!
