Apple has just rolled out the iOS 18.4 update, and this is not just another routine upgrade. This release comes with a stern warning from security experts urging all iPhone users to update immediately. Why? Because it fixes a staggering 62 security vulnerabilities, some of which are deemed severe.

The tech giant has chosen to remain somewhat tight-lipped about the specifics of these fixes, aiming to give users ample time to update before potential attackers exploit the newly revealed vulnerabilities. Among the most concerning fixes are critical issues related to WebKit — the very framework that powers the Safari browser — and essential Kernel issues within the iPhone operating system.

One significant flaw, labeled CVE-2025-30432, affects the Kernel and could allow a malicious app to conduct unauthorized passcode attempts on a locked device. Just imagine the risks involved! Another vulnerability tracked as CVE-2025-24208 in WebKit poses the threat of cross-site scripting attacks, where attackers can inject harmful scripts into trustworthy sites, potentially compromising your sensitive information.

Why Was This Update Necessary?

Just weeks prior, Apple had to release an emergency update, iOS 18.3.2, to address vulnerabilities that were already being actively exploited. This underscores a pressing need for vigilance when it comes to your device’s security.

Adam Boynton, a senior security strategist at Jamf, explains that most of the vulnerabilities addressed in iOS 18.4 are centered around WebKit. “Attackers are continuously trying to exploit this framework as it is responsible for rendering web content on iPhones,” he says. The kernel vulnerability, on the other hand, is rated as “crucial” because it controls core functions of the operating system, putting users at additional risk if left unresolved.

Additionally, the iOS 18.4 update addresses vulnerabilities within Apple’s Core Media framework, which is vital for media processing across various applications. Attackers taking advantage of these flaws could manipulate media processes to access sensitive user data.

More Updates from Apple: Why They Matter

The release of iOS 18.4 isn't the only update on the horizon. Apple has also launched iPadOS 17.7.6 targeted at older iPad models like the iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd generation), which addresses its own set of vulnerabilities. Notably, an issue in Core Media tracked as CVE-2025-24085 could let malicious apps elevate privileges, putting users at significant risk.

Furthermore, older iPhone models are now receiving iOS 16.7.11, fixing vulnerabilities exploited in real attacks, emphasizing the importance of updating even legacy devices.

In conjunction with these iPhone and iPad updates, Apple has released security updates for Safari on macOS Ventura and Sonoma, as well as software updates for Xcode, tvOS, and visionOS for their mixed reality hardware.

Why Immediate Action is Crucial!

With iOS 18.4 rolling out significant patches for over 60 vulnerabilities — the largest list Apple has issued in a while — updating your device should be a top priority. Experts like Jake Moore, global cyber security advisor at ESET, warn that these vulnerabilities not only jeopardize data but could also be exploited in remote denial of service attacks.

To safeguard your iPhone and sensitive information, take action now! Navigate to Settings > General > Software Update and install iOS 18.4 without delay. Protect your device from potential threats lurking out there — an update could be the difference between safety and risk! Don't wait; update now!
