Starting today, catching a tram in Hong Kong will cost you a little more. Adult fares have surged by 10%, now priced at HK$3.30, compared to the previous HK$3.00. This move is part of a broader adjustment affecting fares for all age groups.

Children and Seniors Feel the Pinch

Children aged 3 to 11 will also face a fare increase, jumping from HK$1.50 to HK$1.60, which is roughly a 6.6% rise. Meanwhile, senior citizens aged 65 and over will see their fares increase by approximately 15.3%, now costing HK$1.50 up from HK$1.30.

Monthly Passes Stay the Same!

The good news? Monthly tram passes remain steady at HK$260, providing some relief for regular commuters who depend on this iconic mode of transportation for their daily journeys.

Why the Fare Increase?

This fare hike comes after a comprehensive review by the government of the tram company's plea for increased rates. Operators cited rising operational costs and a sluggish post-pandemic recovery in passenger numbers as the main reasons behind the adjustment.
