In a heart-wrenching incident, two young athletes from the Marquette men's lacrosse team lost their lives in a devastating car crash on Friday night in Milwaukee, just a stone's throw from their campus.
The players, identified as Noah Snyder and Scott Michaud, were involved in the wreck that resulted in their untimely deaths. "Please keep Noah and Scott’s families and our Marquette community in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time," said university president Kimo Ah Yun in a heartfelt social media statement. "Their lives were cut tragically short, and we mourn alongside their teammates and coaches who knew them best."
According to Milwaukee police reports, the accident occurred around 5 p.m., when a 41-year-old driver collided with the car carrying Snyder, Michaud, and four other teammates. Tragically, both Snyder and Michaud were pronounced dead at the scene, while the remaining occupants sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is currently ongoing, with the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office reviewing potential charges.
The victims were not just talented athletes; they were also dedicated students. Michaud, 19, a sophomore goalie from Springboro, Ohio, and Snyder, 20, an attack player from Irving, New York, were both recognized for their academic excellence by being named to the Big East’s All-Academic team last year, each maintaining a GPA of at least 3.0.
Snyder was also notable for his athletic prowess, having represented the Haudenosaunee Nationals in the World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship in South Korea, where he helped lead the team to a commendable fourth-place finish.
The Haudenosaunee Nationals honored Snyder, praising his dedication and respect for his heritage. "Noah's time with us may have been brief, but his legacy will live on through the memories and stories shared by family, friends, and teammates," they stated.
In a show of solidarity and respect for Snyder and Michaud, Marquette University has canceled all home athletic events scheduled for the weekend.
