In a shocking incident, Sundance Head, the country singer who captured the title on season 11 of “The Voice,” was shot on his Texas ranch this past Friday. The gunshot wound was reported to be in the navel area, with his agent, Trey Newman, confirming that he is currently stable.
Newman provided more details to the media, stating that the bullet did not hit any vital organs and emphasized, “It was not self-inflicted.” The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear. “We don’t know if it was an accident with his gun or if it was another hunter nearby,” he mentioned.
The bullet is currently lodged in some fatty tissue, suggesting it may have traveled through another layer before embedding itself. Fortunately, Sundance, aged 46, managed to call 911 himself and was subsequently airlifted to a hospital.
While there were initial concerns that he would require emergency surgery, it appears that surgery may not be necessary after all. Newman reassured, “It sounds like they’re gonna leave it in there.” Meanwhile, Sundance's wife, Misty, is on her way to the hospital to gather more information about his condition.
Early on Friday, Sundance had shared a peaceful moment on social media, posting a photo of the inside of a tent with the caption, "Woke up this morning to the sound of silence," perhaps foreshadowing the unexpected turn of events.
Misty has been providing updates through Facebook to keep fans informed about her husband’s health. “Praise Jesus! Bullet missed all vital organs,” she wrote. She also offered details about the bullet’s trajectory, stating it entered above his navel and nestled into his abdominal wall without requiring surgical intervention. “Him being on the bigger side was a good thing. Bullet is in his fatty tissue. Thanks for all the prayers,” she continued.
Sundance Head's rise to fame began in 2007, when he made his initial attempt at fame on “American Idol,” reaching the semifinals. However, it was his 2016 victory on “The Voice,” under the guidance of coach Blake Shelton, that garnered him widespread recognition. His blind audition performance of Otis Redding's “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long” was celebrated as one of the show's finest.
In addition to his television success, Head has released four albums, with his latest being “Starting Again” in 2022. Fans and fellow artists alike are hoping for a swift recovery as they rally around the talented singer during this challenging time. Stay tuned for updates on his condition.
