In a heartbreaking incident that has shocked the Marquette University community, a driver allegedly under the influence of alcohol was involved in a traffic collision that resulted in the deaths of two talented lacrosse players.

Amandria Brunner, 41, of West Allis, has been charged with two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle following the tragic crash last Friday in Milwaukee. If convicted on both counts, she could face a staggering 80 years in prison.

The fatal accident occurred when Brunner attempted to make a left turn directly in front of an SUV carrying six Marquette men's lacrosse players on their way to a thrift store. The victims, Scott Michaud, 19, and Noah Snyder, 20, were pronounced dead at the scene, leaving their friends and family devastated.

Witnesses have reported alarming details from the scene, noting that Brunner smelled strongly of alcohol after she was helped out of her truck. Officers discovered an open beer can inside her vehicle, further implicating her intoxication status.

Following the collision, Brunner's blood was drawn which revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.133, significantly above the legal limit of 0.08. Investigators uncovered that moments before the crash, Brunner’s truck had remained stationary for around three seconds, and without applying the brakes, she accelerated into the intersection at nearly 12 mph.

This isn’t Brunner's first brush with the law; she was previously convicted for operating while intoxicated back in November 2003. As of now, she remains in custody at the Milwaukee County Jail.

Michaud and Snyder were not just athletes; they were also scholars, each earning a place on the Big East’s all-academic team last year for maintaining a GPA of over 3.0. Snyder played a key role in Marquette’s 14-game season, contributing significantly to the team’s efforts.

This tragic incident serves as a painful reminder of the dire consequences of drunk driving and the profound impact it can have on families and communities.
