In a stunning turn of events, the Minnesota Vikings have revamped their quarterback lineup by trading Sam Howell to the Philadelphia Eagles and signing the seasoned Carson Wentz as their new backup.

Reports confirm that Philadelphia is sending a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick to Minnesota in exchange for Howell and a sixth-round pick in 2026.

Howell, who was drafted in the fifth round of 2022, has already experienced a whirlwind career, being traded three times before his third season even begins. After two tumultuous years with Washington, where he started all 17 games in 2023, he led the NFL in attempts with 612 but also struggled statistically, finishing with 21 interceptions and a whopping 65 sacks.

Last season, Howell had a brief stint with the Seahawks, appearing in just two games before landing in Minnesota this past April.

Joining the Vikings is 32-year-old Carson Wentz, who spent the 2024 season as a backup to Patrick Mahomes with the Kansas City Chiefs. Wentz's last major opportunity came when he started the regular-season finale against the Chargers, completing 12 of 19 passes for 118 yards across three appearances.

Since his days as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Wentz has seen a tumultuous journey, playing for the Eagles, Colts, Commanders, Rams, and Chiefs over the past four seasons. Now, he hopes to stabilize his career in Minnesota as the backup to J.J. McCarthy.
