Hold onto your smartphones, folks! Threads, the rising star in social media and fierce competitor to X, has just rolled out direct messaging (DM) for everyone. That's right—private messaging is now within reach on this Meta-owned platform!
Starting today, you can send DMs to your followers or mutual followers on Instagram. No more shouting into the void; now you can connect one-on-one and share your thoughts privately!
Getting started is super easy! Just tap the envelope icon located in the toolbar at the bottom of the app. This will take you straight to your inbox, where you can hit the pencil icon to start crafting your message.
What’s Available Right Now?
Currently, Threads' DMs are available for users aged 18 and older on Android, iOS, and the web. But be mindful—only one-on-one conversations are available right now. However, Threads has big plans ahead! Soon, users will have the ability to select who can DM them, expanding beyond just mutual connections.
Message Requests and Future Features!
Don't worry about unsolicited messages! Threads will introduce a message request folder, allowing you to manage who gets to slide into your DMs—similar to features already on X. Plus, be on the lookout for group messaging and inbox filters in the near future.
Privacy Matters, But…
While Threads emphasizes robust privacy features, a spokesperson confirmed that the platform won’t support end-to-end encryption for messages, which has raised some eyebrows. Alec Booker stated, "We will continue evolving DMs on Threads based on community feedback."
New Features on the Way!
As if DMs weren’t enough, Threads has also unveiled a brand new 'highlighter' feature designed to spotlight "unique perspectives that lead to thoughtful conversations." Currently, highlighted content will appear in specific sections, like your For You feed, bringing trending topics to the forefront. Stay tuned as they plan to expand this feature to more areas of the app!
With these exciting updates, Threads is stepping up its game. Are you ready to dive into DMs and explore a whole new way to connect?
