As American consumers grapple with soaring vehicle prices—with no new models available under $20,000—the market in emerging economies like India continues to thrive with affordable and safe car options. Global NCAP, a UK-based organization dedicated to improving road safety, recently conducted a crash test on the Suzuki Dzire, produced by Maruti Suzuki, and the results are nothing short of extraordinary.

Equipped with a 1.2-liter engine generating 80 horsepower—or a CNG variant offering 69 horsepower—the Dzire has proven itself a worthy contender in safety, scoring five stars for adult occupant protection and four stars for child occupant safety. Maruti Suzuki’s confidence in the Dzire’s safety performance comes as no surprise; the company proactively provided vehicles for testing, showcasing its commitment to safety.

Despite its low price, the Dzire boasts an impressive suite of safety features, including six airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), hill hold assist, and pedestrian protection. In comparison, America’s most affordable car, the Nissan Versa, costs more than double the Dzire, starting at $18,330—a stark contrast considering the safety tech included in the Indian sedan.

What's more, the new Dzire marks a significant improvement over its predecessor. The previous model received a dismal two-star rating for both adult and child occupant protection due to its unstable structure and lack of side protection features.
