HONG KONG - November 8, 2024 - The 32nd Hong Kong International Optical Fair, a key event in the eyewear industry, successfully concluded today with an impressive turnout of around 13,000 buyers hailing from 94 countries and regions. Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) in collaboration with the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association (HKOMA), the fair has solidified its status as a major global sourcing platform for optical products.

HKTDC Deputy Executive Director Sophia Chong expressed enthusiasm over the diverse participation, noting a marked increase in buyers from ASEAN nations including Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand, as well as from Australia, Japan, and Taiwan. “This reinforces Hong Kong's advantage in internationalization and the Fair's continuing role as a premier sourcing platform for the industry,” she stated.

Innovative Thematic Labels Revolutionize Buyer Experience

This year’s fair introduced three new thematic labels: Green Solutions Suppliers, Smart Eyewear, and Smart Ageing Products, supplementing the 12 product zones that showcased a wide range of eyewear categories. These labels were designed to enhance the shopping experience by allowing buyers to easily find products that meet current market trends, particularly those emphasizing sustainability and technology.

The growing focus on eco-conscious products was evident. Exhibitor Winky International, which specializes in biodegradable eyewear, noted a significant uptick in interest from European buyers, thanks to their Green Solutions Supplier label. Kevin Ching, the company's founder and creative director, disclosed that their booth welcomed 10% more visitors than the previous year, leading to on-site orders from a new Malaysian buyer and the potential for establishing partnerships with 8-10 new distributors, projecting a 50% increase in sales from the previous fair.

The Rise of Smart Eyewear

In response to the burgeoning intersection of technology and daily living, products featuring advanced functionalities are taking center stage. One standout, AirGo(TM) Vision by Hong Kong's Solos Technology, incorporates ChatGPT-4o capabilities. General Manager Kenny Cheung reported that this smart eyewear has generated substantial interest, with expectations of forming collaborations with more than 10 buyers from various regions including Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mainland China, Malaysia, and the UK. Cheung emphasized that AirGo(TM) Vision is designed not just for tech-savvy youth but also for the elderly and visually impaired, highlighting promising business prospects in the growing silver market.

As the optical industry evolves, events like the Hong Kong International Optical Fair play a crucial role in shaping trends and connecting innovative manufacturers with global buyers, paving the way for a sustainable and technologically advanced future in eyewear.
