The Dodgers finally broke through with a single from Shohei Ohtani followed by a towering home run from Betts, which propelled LA to a 2-1 lead. Relief pitcher Pierce Johnson replaced Sale but gave up a crucial run after a wild throw from rookie catcher Drake Baldwin on a stolen base attempt allowed Will Smith to deliver an RBI single.

Sale’s final line indicated mixed results: 5+ innings pitched with three runs allowed (one charged to Johnson) on four hits, with no strikeouts recorded. After winning the prestigious Cy Young Award last year, Sale's current ERA has ballooned to 5.40, raising concerns about his performance and the team’s struggles overall.
