In a bittersweet announcement that has sent shockwaves through the comedy world, Ego Nwodim is bidding farewell to Saturday Night Live after an impressive seven-season run.

Taking to Instagram, Nwodim expressed her gratitude and emotions, stating, "The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight. But after seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL. I am immensely grateful to Lorne for the opportunity, to my castmates, the writers, and the crew for their brilliance, support and friendship. Week after week on that stage taught me more than I could have ever imagined, and I will carry those memories (and that laughter) with me always. Now invite me to your weddings please!!!"

As news of her departure spread, a wave of admiration and support flooded her comments from both past and present cast members.

Former SNL star Cecily Strong, who herself departed in 2022, celebrated Nwodim's talent with a heartfelt message: "Just texted you but I also want to say it loud and proud here: it was an honor and total joy to get to work with you. One of the best to ever do it."

Current castmate Chloe Fineman chimed in, posting "One of the best to ever do it my friend. GOAT," while Bowen Yang praised her by sharing a photo and declaring her, "the best." Other celebrities joined the chorus, with Jack Black succinctly commenting "Mic drop," and Alison Brie saying, "Congrats on an incredible run!!" Following her announcement, NBC confirmed the returning cast members for this upcoming season 51, revealing that, alongside Nwodim, several others would not be returning, including Heidi Gardner and Michael Longfellow.
