Skyway Airlines Takes Flight

In an exciting development for the logistics industry, Skyway Airlines, a fresh contender in the Philippine aviation market, has officially launched freighter operations servicing Hong Kong. These operations kicked off on March 20 and are supported by Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl), ensuring a smooth handling experience for cargo flights.

Freighter Operations and Capacity

The airline’s new freighter routes will operate three times per week from Hong Kong to Clark International Airport and also three times a week from Hong Kong to Manila. Utilizing an 18-tonne capacity Boeing 737-400 freighter, Skyway Airlines is strategically targeting the booming e-commerce sector, a move that comes at a crucial time following the surge in online shopping spurred by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Market Need for Dedicated Freight Solutions

Historically, air cargo transport within the Philippines has primarily relied on passenger aircraft carrying goods in their bellyholds. However, as the archipelago comprises more than 7,000 islands, the need for dedicated air freight solutions has become increasingly evident. Jose Angelo Peralta, the president and CEO of Skyway Airlines, expressed confidence in the new venture, stating, “We are very pleased to have the one-stop service support from Hactl for our freighter operation into Hong Kong International Airport, which greatly reduced our challenges in the service launch. Joanna Li, the executive director for commercial and business development at Hactl, welcomed the airline to their logistics network, emphasizing the importance of this service launch. “Skyway Airlines represents an innovative move that addresses a very real need for the Philippines.
