Allen Lazard Commits to Jets with a New Contract!
In a surprising turn of events, wide receiver Allen Lazard will remain with the New York Jets after a tough few weeks of uncertainty about his future.
Initially granted permission to seek a trade, Lazard's path seemed unclear as no deal came through. However, with discussions heating up at last week's league meetings, General Manager Darren Mougey hinted at plans to secure Lazard's services.
According to insider Jason Fitzgerald from OverTheCap.com, the Jets and Lazard have finalized a reworked deal that could change the landscape for the team.
Originally slated to earn $11 million this season, Lazard has agreed to a significant $8.5 million pay cut. This adjustment dramatically reduces his cap hit from $13.2 million to just $4.6 million, giving the Jets much-needed salary wiggle room.
The new contract also guarantees $1.75 million of his salary, but there's a catch—the final year of his contract has been eliminated, making Lazard a free agent after this season.
In his two seasons with the Jets, Lazard has demonstrated his potential, recording 60 receptions for an impressive 841 yards and seven touchdowns. As he prepares for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on him to see if he can elevate his game and secure a prime position in the Jets’ offense.
