Dramatic Crackdown on Drug Trafficking

In a dramatic crackdown, Hong Kong Customs has taken decisive action against drug trafficking in Wong Tai Sin, targeting a suspected distribution center responsible for distributing a variety of harmful narcotics, including the notorious "space oil drug." The operation, executed on April 1, resulted in the seizure of an alarming array of drugs and paraphernalia, totaling an estimated value of around $7 million. Authorities also arrested two individuals connected to this illicit operation.

The Seized Drugs

During the operation, officials intercepted a 19-year-old man, discovering an astonishing haul inside his suitcase: approximately 1.1 kilograms of suspected crack cocaine, 1 kilogram of suspected cocaine, 1,500 tablets and 100 grams of suspected ecstasy, and 102 electronic cigarette devices supposedly containing cannabis oil. Following his arrest, Customs officers conducted a search at his nearby public housing unit, uncovering an additional 129 "space oil drug" capsules, around 5 kilograms of suspected cocaine, about 200 grams of crack cocaine, and 80 more electronic cigarette devices, as well as drug packaging materials. A 54-year-old man present at the unit was also taken into custody.

Ongoing Battle Against Drug Trafficking

This operation highlights an ongoing battle against drug trafficking that Hong Kong Customs is determined to intensify, particularly with regard to the distribution of the "space oil drug." Officials have stated that if public rental housing units are found to be implicated in drug trafficking, they will promptly inform the Housing Department for further action following the conclusion of legal proceedings.

Legal Consequences

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in illegal narcotics is treated as a serious crime, carrying maximum penalties of up to $5 million in fines and life imprisonment upon conviction.

Community Involvement

The community is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious drug trafficking activities to Customs. Citizens can reach out to the 24-hour report hotline at 182 8080, or make reports through an email account or online form.

This shocking event not only illustrates the challenges faced by law enforcement but also serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight against drug-related crime in Hong Kong, urging citizens to play a proactive role in safeguarding their communities.
