In a stunning turn of events at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the No. 60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-06 has lost its pole position ahead of Sunday’s highly anticipated Battle on the Bricks. This dramatic disqualification occurred due to a technical violation uncovered in the post-qualifying inspection.
Spurred by the talented Tom Blomqvist, who initially secured the pole, the Acura will now start from the back of the 12-car field. According to an IMSA statement, the team failed to meet the prescribed bodywork tolerances set forth in LMDh technical regulations.
This unexpected setback means that the No. 31 Action Express Racing Cadillac V-Series.R, driven by Jack Aitken, will now take the coveted front position on the grid, leading to a Cadillac lockout of the top three spots!
Interestingly, Cadillac hasn’t seen a pole position in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship since last year’s Motul Petit Le Mans—also with Aitken behind the wheel, racing in collaboration with Blomqvist.
Occupying the front row alongside Aitken's Cadillac is the No. 40 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac, driven by Louis Deletraz, while the No. 10 WTR entry, featuring Ricky Taylor, will start third.
The drama didn’t stop with Acura; the No. 75 SunEnergy1 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of Mikael Grenier also faced scrutiny in post-qualifying, resulting in a relegation to the back of the GTD Pro starting lineup due to ground clearance violations.
Gear up for the six-hour Battle on the Bricks, kicking off at 11:40 a.m. EST on Sunday! Fans can enjoy live coverage on Peacock, with the final two hours and 40 minutes broadcasted live on NBC starting at 3 p.m. Don't miss this thrilling showdown!
