Seahawks' Running Back Ken Walker III Doubtful for Dolphins Showdown; Key Starters Ruled Out

2024-09-20

RENTON, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks face a challenging match-up against the Miami Dolphins this Sunday as running back Ken Walker III is listed as doubtful due to an oblique injury. Walker's injury, which he sustained during the Seahawks' season opener, kept him from participating in the game against the New England Patriots last week.

Head coach Mike Macdonald remains hopeful, stating, “I’m very optimistic that Walker will be back in Week 4,” as the added day off before their upcoming clash against the Detroit Lions on "Monday Night Football" may aid his recovery.

In addition to Walker's uncertain status, the Seahawks will be without two other crucial players for the game against the Dolphins. Outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu, who is battling an MCL sprain, and right tackle George Fant, both nursing knee injuries, have been officially ruled out. Meanwhile, inside linebacker Jerome Baker is also doubtful with a hamstring injury.

Nwosu is expected to miss his third consecutive game but is reportedly progressing well, with Macdonald noting, “He’s optimistic and moving quickly in his recovery.”

However, the Seahawks displayed resilience in their last outing, with rookie Zach Charbonnet stepping up to fill Walker’s shoes. Charbonnet played a pivotal role against the Patriots, handling 19 touches, accumulating 69 yards, and scoring a touchdown, as he took the lead in the running game.

In the wake of these injuries, Kenny McIntosh is in line to serve as the Seahawks' No. 3 running back. The team also has George Holani and Brittain Brown on their practice squad, although Holani is currently dealing with an ankle injury that limits his availability.

In more positive news, it appears that outside linebacker Boye Mafe, safety K'Von Wallace, and wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. are trending towards playing despite being labeled as questionable. Macdonald expressed optimism about Mafe’s condition, stating he has shown improvement in recent practices.

With the Seahawks essentially entering a critical juncture in their season, fans will be eager to see how the team adapts without some of their star players as they aim for a strong rebound against the Dolphins. Will Seattle overcome these hurdles and secure a win? Only time will tell!
