Salt Life Apparel Brand to Shut Down 28 Retail Stores Following Bankruptcy Acquisition

In a significant shift for the Salt Life brand, numerous retail locations across the nation are set to close their doors. The announcement comes from Hilco Consumer-Retail Group, one of the newly appointed owners of the iconic lifestyle and apparel brand, which focuses on beach and ocean-related products.

As part of its restructuring plans, Hilco revealed on Tuesday that all 28 retail outlets will be closing as they move forward with liquidation processes. This decision follows the brand's recent purchase after its previous owner, Delta Apparel Inc., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June, prompting a major overhaul of the Salt Life business model.

Founded in 2003 in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, Salt Life has become synonymous with beach culture, offering a diverse range of clothing, accessories, and even dining experiences. The company's rise, however, faced challenges that ultimately led to its previous financial difficulties.

In a strategic acquisition, Hilco, in partnership with Iconix International, acquired the Salt Life apparel line for an impressive $38.74 million. With this acquisition, the new ownership aims to revamp the brand and redefine its market presence. Along with the merchandise liquidation, store fixtures and displays are also up for sale as part of the transition.

For dedicated customers holding Salt Life gift cards, there’s a deadline to keep in mind—these cards will only be honored until October 20 of this year.

As the brand enters this new chapter, the future remains uncertain, but stakeholders are hopeful for a stronger revival of Salt Life that aligns with modern consumer preferences and enhances their beach-centric lifestyle offerings. This significant move could mark a transformative period for both the brand and its loyal customers. Stay tuned for updates on how Salt Life intends to navigate the waters ahead!
