In a bold move to revitalize their lineup, the Las Vegas Raiders have officially signed veteran linebacker Jaylon Smith following a successful tryout at rookie minicamp, as confirmed by ESPN's Adam Schefter.
At just 29, Smith is determined to reignite his NFL career after a rocky few seasons. He made a brief appearance for the Raiders in 2023, where he recorded two tackles during a standout win against the New York Giants but was soon waived.
Smith rose to prominence with the Dallas Cowboys, who first selected him in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft. Over five seasons with the Cowboys, he earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2019, racking up an impressive 142 tackles, 9 passes defended, and 2 forced fumbles.
However, his journey since then has been tumultuous. In 2021, after being released by the Cowboys early in the season, he joined the Green Bay Packers but was let go after just two games, only to find himself with the New York Giants.
Still, hope remained in 2022, as Smith demonstrated his potential once more, achieving 88 tackles in 13 games with the Giants. Across his career, he has started in 69 of 88 games, amassing a total of 626 tackles, 11 sacks, and 6 forced fumbles.
As he dons the Raiders jersey, fans will be eager to see if Smith can once again shine on the field and make an impact in the heart of the defense.
