Pillsbury's Major Move in Hong Kong
In a major move to bolster its Hong Kong operations, Pillsbury has recently shifted its local office from a registered foreign law firm to an official Hong Kong solicitors’ firm, a transition completed on March 13.
Appointment of Samuel Ng
Shortly after this significant change, the esteemed U.S. law firm announced the appointment of corporate partner Samuel Ng, a well-respected figure in the field of capital markets.
Expertise of Samuel Ng
Samuel Ng brings with him an impressive two decades of legal expertise, particularly focused on equity and debt capital markets transactions, as well as the complex structuring of initial public offerings (IPOs) on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX). Ng has garnered rich experience across various prestigious law firms, including a tenure as a partner at Paul Hastings, where he closely collaborated with Yan Jia, who now serves as Pillsbury's co-leader of the China practice.
Notable Achievements
His previous role at DeHeng Law Offices in Hong Kong saw him play a pivotal role advising the financial adviser for Pizu Group during the company's landmark transfer of its listing from the Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) to the main board. This achievement marked a significant milestone, as it was the first successful transfer following the HKEX’s implementation of a streamlined mechanism under chapter 9B of the Listing Rules.
Optimism from Leadership
Yan expressed strong optimism regarding Ng’s role, emphasizing that his addition will enhance the firm’s capabilities in navigating complex Hong Kong-based transactions and delivering unparalleled service to clients.
Expanded Team
Pillsbury’s Hong Kong office is now equipped with a diverse team dedicated to providing comprehensive legal services. In addition to Ng, partners Ronald Cheng and Adam Goldberg are also licensed to practice Hong Kong law. Meanwhile, New York-admitted partner Michelle Ng offers expertise in cross-border legal disputes and regulatory compliance, enabling the firm to provide a well-rounded support system for its clients.
Commitment to Asia
As Pillsbury continues to expand its footprint in Asia, it signals a growing commitment to serve clients in the dynamic Hong Kong market. This strategic hiring and restructuring not only enhances their operational status but also positions them as a formidable player in the region's legal landscape.
