Pillsbury Expands Its Presence in Hong Kong
In a bold move that signals its commitment to Hong Kong's vibrant legal landscape, Pillsbury recently elevated its status from a registered foreign law firm to a local Hong Kong solicitors' firm on March 13. Hot on the heels of this transition, the prestigious U.S. firm has welcomed corporate partner Samuel Ng, a leading expert in capital markets, to its ranks.
Samuel Ng’s Expertise
With an impressive two decades of experience, Ng is not just any lawyer—he's a Hong Kong-qualified legal powerhouse who specializes in equity and debt capital markets transactions, as well as structuring IPOs on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX). His distinguished career has seen him navigate the complex interplay between international and PRC law, making him a sought-after asset for clients operating in the region.
Before joining Pillsbury, Ng was a pivotal partner at Paul Hastings, where he collaborated closely with Yan Jia, the firm’s current co-leader of the China practice.
Notable Achievements
Notably, Ng's tenure at DeHeng Law Offices’ Hong Kong branch marked a significant milestone in his career. During this time, he played a crucial role in advising Pizu Group on their landmark listing transfer from the Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) to the main board. This case was groundbreaking, as it became the first successful transition of its kind following the introduction of a streamlined transfer mechanism under Chapter 9B of the HKEX Listing Rules.
Team Expansion and Future Outlook
Yan Jia expressed enthusiasm about Ng's addition to the team, noting that his expertise is expected to bolster Pillsbury's capabilities in facilitating successful transactions for clients looking to thrive in Hong Kong's competitive market.
Currently, the Hong Kong office boasts a diverse service team which includes not only Ng but also Ronald Cheng and Adam Goldberg, both qualified to practice Hong Kong law. Additionally, there’s New York-admitted partner Michelle Ng, who specializes in advising on cross-border legal disputes and regulatory matters, solidifying Pillsbury’s comprehensive service offerings in the region.
This recent expansion reflects Pillsbury’s strategic vision and reinforces its dedication to providing top-tier legal support to clients navigating the intricacies of the Hong Kong market. As the firm continues to grow, all eyes will be on how it leverages this expertise to further enhance its position in one of Asia’s most dynamic economic hubs. Stay tuned for what’s next in Pillsbury’s journey!
