Pillsbury Expands Hong Kong Team with Strategic New Hire: What You Need to Know!
In a significant move to strengthen its foothold in Asia, Pillsbury has officially transitioned its Hong Kong office from a registered foreign law firm to a fully-fledged Hong Kong solicitors’ firm as of March 13. This shift marks a new chapter for the US-based law firm, further solidifying its commitment to serving clients in the region.
Shortly after this transition, Pillsbury made a notable addition to its team by hiring corporate partner Samuel Ng, a seasoned expert in capital markets with over 20 years of legal experience. Ng is well-versed in equity and debt transactions, having a deep understanding of Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX). His impressive career spans various prominent law firms, including his previous role as a partner at Paul Hastings, where he collaborated with Yan Jia, who now co-leads Pillsbury's China practice.
Not only does Ng bring a wealth of knowledge from his tenure at established firms, but he also has a track record of success in significant transactions. While serving as a partner at DeHeng Law Offices in Hong Kong, Ng provided critical counsel to Pizu Group's financial adviser during the company's listing transfer from the GEM to the main board—an achievement that set a precedent as the first successful case following the HKEX's streamlined transfer mechanism under Chapter 9B of the Listing Rules.
Yan Jia has expressed optimism regarding Ng’s addition to the team, noting that his expertise will enhance Pillsbury's capability to provide exceptional support to clients navigating complex deals in Hong Kong.
As it stands, the Hong Kong office boasts a versatile legal team, including Ng, Ronald Cheng, and Adam Goldberg, who are all equipped to practice Hong Kong law. Additionally, New York-admitted partner Michelle Ng is available to handle cross-border legal disputes and regulatory matters, ensuring that the firm remains at the forefront of legal challenges in the Asia-Pacific region.
With these strategic moves, Pillsbury is on track to elevate its presence in Hong Kong, making it a vital player in the evolving legal landscape. Stay tuned for more updates on how this shift will impact clients and the firm’s growth!
