In a shocking twist, the Phoenix Suns have reportedly not guaranteed Kevin Durant a trade to one of his preferred teams: the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, or San Antonio Spurs. Renowned NBA insider Marc Stein reveals that while the Suns are open to discussions with these franchises, they are focused on making the most advantageous trade, regardless of Durant’s preferences.

Although Durant has expressed a desire to land with the Heat, Spurs, or Rockets, the Suns are making it clear that the best deal for the franchise takes precedence. According to Stein, Phoenix has communicated to several interested teams that they intend to prioritize their own return on investment over Durant’s wish list.

Adding fuel to the fire, ESPN's Shams Charania indicated that Durant is looking to commit long-term with any of his favored teams should a trade materialize. The clock seems to be ticking, as Duane Rankin from the Arizona Republic speculates that a move involving the 15-time All-Star is imminent, possibly within days.

Back in February 2023, the Suns traded a massive package to acquire Durant from the Brooklyn Nets, sending out role players Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, and four unprotected first-round picks.

Despite a disappointing 2024-25 season where the Suns missed the playoffs with a 36-46 record, Durant maintained impressive individual stats, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. Yet the Suns recognize that the return on Durant may not measure up to what they initially gave up, especially with just one year and $54.7 million left on his contract.

The Suns remain poised to make the best decision for their future, even if it means shipping Durant to a less desirable team. Fans and analysts alike are watching closely as this drama unfolds in the coming days!
