In a surprising twist of camaraderie, Peter Navarro, a prominent trade adviser to Donald Trump, proclaimed that he and Elon Musk are on good terms—even after Musk launched a scathing critique, labeling him a "moron" and claiming he’s "dumber than a sack of bricks."
During his appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press," Navarro acknowledged the insults, stating, "I’ve been called worse." He emphasized his admiration for Musk's contributions, particularly his role in promoting government efficiency, quipping, "Everything’s fine with Elon."
The tension erupted after Musk voiced strong opposition to Trump’s global tariff proposals, which have been set at 10% for most countries, with some facing even steeper levies. Navarro has played a key role in crafting these tariffs.
Musk’s multiple social media blasts directed at Navarro included gems like, "He truly is a moron" and "ain’t built shit." In retaliation, Navarro dismissed Musk’s prowess, referring to him merely as a "car assembler."
When pressed by host Kristen Welker about the potential impact of Musk’s critiques on Trump’s tariff strategy—especially as Trump recently delayed higher trade rates for many nations—Navarro sidestepped the question. Instead, he shifted gears, referencing his own tumultuous recent history, including a four-month prison stint for defying a congressional subpoena related to the January 6 Capitol attack. He remarked, "Nobody should have to come into this government and have that happen or have to go to jail like I did," underscoring his controversial past.
Despite the fallout, Navarro appeared unfazed, reiterating his dismissal of Musk's jabs during another interview on CNN, saying simply, "It’s no problem." As for Musk, he has remained tight-lipped since his outbursts.
