In a thrilling display of power at Coors Field, Pete Alonso has officially surpassed Mets legend David Wright on the franchise's all-time home run list. The towering first baseman, who had already hit a homer to tie Wright with 242 home runs earlier in the game, wasn't content to share second place for long.

In the eighth inning, Alonso connected on a pitch, sending the ball soaring over the left field fence to claim his spot at 243 homers and become just behind Darryl Strawberry's record of 252.

"I don’t think it will settle in just yet since we’re still in the midst of the season," Alonso remarked after the Mets capped off a 13-5 destruction of the Rockies, completing a three-game series sweep. "Right now, it’s all about winning."

Alonso wasn't the only Mets player putting on a show; teammate Jeff McNeil also dazzled fans with two home runs, contributing to the Mets' impressive total of six long balls.

Meanwhile, rising star Juan Soto was a force at the plate, reaching base six times in the game—the first Mets player to do so since Alonso in 2019.

During a stellar seven-game road trip, Alonso earned five home runs and racked up 15 RBIs, helping the Mets finish with a commendable 5-2 record and placing them 18 games over .500—a milestone they didn't reach until much later last season.

With this latest achievement, Alonso also became the all-time leader for the Mets in multi-homer games, surpassing Strawberry with 23 in his career. Now, he eyes Strawberry’s franchise record of 252 home runs.

McNeil praised Alonso's focus, saying, "Pete has been incredible this year—every time he's at bat, you can sense he’ll do some damage. If you miss your spot against him, he’s going to punish it."

On the other side, the struggling Rockies find themselves in dire straits, now 41 games below .500 and dangerously close to breaking the modern era record for most losses in a season, which is currently held by last year’s Chicago White Sox.

The Mets wasted no time, with McNeil's homer in the second inning putting them on the board. McNeil's impressive 10-pitch at-bat ended with a deep shot against Rockies pitcher Chase Dollander, while an RBI single from Francisco Alvarez added another run.

Alonso's two-run homer in the third inning tied him with Wright, further igniting the Mets’ offense. Following another run scored on Tyrone Taylor’s double, McNeil's three-run blast in the fourth inning completely buried the Rockies.

Despite only allowing three hits through the first four innings, Tylor Megill was pulled after two earned runs in the fifth. He finished with five strikeouts, showcasing solid performance despite the Rockies finally breaking through.

Ultimately, the Mets continued their offensive onslaught with Brett Baty's two-run homer in the seventh, followed by Alonso's game-sealing shot in the eighth. Alvarez added a ninth-inning homer, wrapping up a resounding victory.

Alonso's dominance at the plate, combined with a strong team effort, left fans buzzing and put the league on notice as the Mets chase greatness this season.
