"No matter what we do, we’ve got to take this from Elon Musk. He’s part of an effort to go backward," she stated when introducing the bill. Fahy is advocating for the redistribution of Tesla's dealership licenses to other electric vehicle manufacturers, such as Rivian and Lucid.

Fahy's criticism of Musk escalated following his alignment with former President Trump, which has led many Democrats to reassess their support for Tesla. She accused Musk of contributing to harmful policies, stating, "He’s part of an administration that is killing all grant funding for electric vehicle infrastructure and renewable energy initiatives."

Protests have erupted nationwide, with Tesla dealerships facing acts of vandalism, and the company's profits suffering dramatically—plummeting by 71% in the first quarter of 2025. Fahy herself partook in a protest against a plan for a sprawling Tesla showroom in Colonie, emphasizing her belief that Tesla is no longer deserving of its privileges.
