Monaco Grand Prix Secures Future with Contract Extension Through 2031!
The legendary Monaco Grand Prix is set to continue captivating audiences as it officially remains on the Formula 1 calendar until 2031. This exciting news comes with a strategic date change that will help the iconic race avoid conflict with the Indianapolis 500, one of America’s most prestigious motorsport events.
As the Monaco Grand Prix approached the final year of its current contract in 2025, organizers engaged in discussions with Formula 1 to modernize and enhance the event's appeal. This led to a significant shift in scheduling, moving the race from its traditional late May spot to the first full weekend in June starting from 2026. This adjustment not only accommodates logistical considerations but also paves the way for potential pairings of other races, such as those in Miami and Canada, further boosting sustainability efforts within the sport.
F1 president and CEO, Stefano Domenicali, expressed his enthusiasm over the contract extension: “I’m delighted that Formula 1 will continue to race in Monaco until 2031. The streets of Monte Carlo are unique and are an integral part of F1. Winning at the Monaco Grand Prix is a dream for every driver.”
The extension is a testament to the strong relationships between Formula 1 and the Principality of Monaco. Domenicali extended special thanks to H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and Michel Boeri, president of the Automobile Club of Monaco, for their vital roles in securing this partnership. The president highlighted the importance of focusing on environmental sustainability and logistics efficiency as Formula 1 aims for its Net Zero target by 2030.
Next year, the Monaco Grand Prix will still take place over the weekend of May 23-25, as that calendar has already been confirmed. Boeri praised the enduring legacy of the event, stating, “The Monaco Grand Prix is the most important sporting event here and continues to attract hundreds of thousands of spectators to the principality and millions of global viewers, solidifying its position as a premier grand prix.”
With this partnership and strategic planning, the future looks bright for the Monaco Grand Prix, ensuring that fans will continue to enjoy this historic race for many years to come. Will the new schedule bring even more thrilling moments? Only time will tell!
