Outlook Crashing Issues? Here's What You Need to Know!

Microsoft has issued a temporary solution to combat ongoing crashes plaguing the classic Outlook email client. Users have reported that Outlook crashes when attempting to open emails or start new messages after the recent upgrade to version 2504 (Build 18730.20122).

According to Microsoft, this glitch arises because Outlook is unable to open the Forms Library, particularly affecting users operating on virtual desktop infrastructures (VDI). The issue has been prioritized for investigation, and further updates will be provided as they become available.

Quick Fix: Create the FORMS2 Folder!

While a permanent fix is in the works, Microsoft encourages affected users to create a missing folder called FORMS2 as a temporary workaround. Here’s how to do it in just a few easy steps:

1. Close Outlook and any other Office applications. 2. Click Start, go to Run, and type in %localappdata%\Microsoft, then hit OK. 3. In File Explorer, click New, select Folder, and rename it FORMS2.

Additional Issues: Flickering Mailbox Folders!

But that’s not all. Microsoft is also looking into a separate issue causing mailbox folders to flicker and rearrange themselves when users attempt to move items. This bug has been noted in those using version 2505 (Build 18827.20128).

As a workaround for this flickering, users can disable the Download Shared Folders option to prevent caching of shared mailboxes. However, be warned that this might lead to performance drops, forcing Outlook to operate offline.

Stay Updated!

Just last week, Microsoft rolled out a service update aimed at fixing crashes in Outlook LTSC 2019 that occurred when opening Viva Engage, Yammer, Power Automate, and other emails. Stay tuned for further updates related to these emerging issues!
