Microsoft Makes Bold Moves in Europe
In a groundbreaking shift, Microsoft has announced that Windows users in the European Economic Area (EEA)—which includes the EU alongside Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway—will gain unprecedented control over their systems. This comes as part of their compliance with the Digital Markets Act.
Say Goodbye to Annoying Prompts!
One of the most exciting updates is that users can now uninstall Microsoft Edge completely and won’t be bombarded with constant reminders to set it as their default browser, a popular demand among many tech-savvy folks. This change, effective with Edge version 137.0.3296.52, went live on May 29th.
Choose Your Browser Without Hassle
Windows users in the EEA can now easily designate their preferred browsers—be it Chrome, Firefox, Brave, or others—and have them pinned to the taskbar without any fuss. Not only will default settings apply to familiar file types like .html and https, but also to lesser-known types such as .svg and FTP. Expect a seamless experience with these changes rolling out widely on Windows 10 and 11 this July.
