The company stated, "Meta AI with camera use is always enabled on your glasses unless you turn off ‘Hey Meta.’" This means that unless users manually disable the voice command feature, Meta will routinely analyze photos and videos taken by the glasses' built-in camera.

For those who prefer using their Ray-Ban Metas like standard glasses without the AI analyzing their moments, turning off the voice command is mandatory. Rest assured, though—the glasses aren’t perpetually recording everything around you!

Voice Recordings: Now All-In!

In another significant shift, Meta has decided to follow in Amazon's footsteps by eliminating the option for Ray-Ban Meta owners to opt-out of cloud storage for their voice recordings. The email noted, "The option to disable voice recordings storage is no longer available, but you can delete recordings anytime in settings." Speaking of storage, the company retains these recordings for up to a year to refine its products, but any interactions deemed accidental will be wiped clean after just 90 days.

Why the Changes?

Clearly, Meta's intention with these adjustments is to feed its AI models with a wealth of data, enhancing their development. While some users caught wind of these changes as early as March, the official rollout began on April 29th in the United States.
