A Surprising Nominee for the 2025 All-Star Game
The buzz is palpable as the 2025 All-Star Rosters were unveiled on Sunday, yet they remain a work in progress. With Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman sidelined due to injury, his All-Star spot—and others—might soon go to deserving candidates on the fringe.
But that's not the only exciting news! For the second consecutive year, two ball boys and girls are set to join the festivities in Atlanta, and one standout nominee is none other than Red Sox ball attendant Jacque Harrington!
From the Sidelines to the Spotlight
Jacque Harrington's journey to All-Star consideration took an unexpected turn after a standout play in April caught everyone's attention. Surprisingly, it wasn’t until last week that Harrington even contemplated the All-Star stage as a reality.
“As a joke, I told a coworker at Fenway, ‘We need to make a highlight reel play to get to the All-Star game,’” Harrington recalled. “I knew about the opportunity but never thought I’d actually be considered.”
A Ball Girl with Big Game Experience
Hailing from New Hampshire and a die-hard Boston fan, Harrington is in her third year as a Red Sox ball girl, boasting a remarkable background as a former catcher at Providence College. Transitioning from behind the plate to the first base line has its challenges, but Harrington has adapted like a pro.
“I use a smaller middle infielder’s glove now. I could probably snag a lot more balls with my catcher’s mitt, but it feels strange to sit there with it.”
Recognition on the Field and From Fans
This isn’t Harrington’s first brush with fame; umpires and players have previously lauded her defensive prowess. And while she’s faced her share of challenges—including heckling fans—her confidence shines through.
“Sure, I’ve gotten booed for missing a few plays,” Harrington said with a grin. “But I just think, ‘Okay, if it’s that easy, let’s see you try!’”
A Moment of Brilliance
Beyond Fenway, Harrington made headlines with a jaw-dropping bare-handed catch behind home plate, showcasing her quick instincts as she fired the ball to first base for an impressive double play. Will this talented ball girl make it to Atlanta? Stay tuned as the All-Star excitement continues!
