The 24th astronaut class hit the ground running in mid-September, diving into an intense curriculum that covers all aspects of space operations. Here’s a closer look at the fearless individuals who make up this exceptional group:

1. Ben Bailey, 38 — U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 3

Hailing from Charlottesville, Virginia, Ben combines his mechanical engineering background with test piloting expertise, tallying over 2,000 flight hours.

2. Lauren Edgar, 40 — Geologist and Lunar Scientist

From Sammamish, Washington, Lauren has been pivotal in defining NASA’s lunar goals and brings extensive experience supporting Mars exploration.

3. Adam Fuhrmann, 35 — U.S. Air Force Major

With a rich background in aerospace engineering from MIT and more than 2,100 flight hours, Adam is well-prepared for the challenges of astronaut life.

4. Cameron Jones, 35 — U.S. Air Force Major

This test pilot from Savanna, Illinois, brings considerable combat experience and a passion for aerospace engineering.

5. Yuri Kubo, 40 — Engineering Expert

Yuri, a seasoned player in the aerospace industry right from Columbus, Indiana, has had a remarkable career at SpaceX and brings invaluable expertise.

6. Rebecca Lawler, 38 — Former Navy Test Pilot

A true aviation powerhouse from Texas, Rebecca boasts over 2,800 flight hours and has flown multiple aircraft in challenging environments.

7. Anna Menon, 39 — Biomedical Engineer and Space Explorer

Houston's own Anna is not just a brilliant mind but has already flown to space as a mission specialist!

8. Imelda Muller, 34 — Undersea Medical Officer

Bringing a medical background and naval experience, Imelda is uniquely skilled for the demands of deep space exploration.

9. Erin Overcash, 34 — U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander

An F/A-18 pilot from Kentucky, Erin has been part of the elite Navy's World Class Athlete Program, training alongside elite athletes.

10. Katherine Spies, 43 — Marine Corps Veteran

Hailing from San Diego, Katherine’s extensive flight experience as an attack helicopter pilot makes her a standout addition to the team.

With these ten candidates, NASA has now welcomed a total of 370 astronaut candidates since the original Mercury Seven in 1959. As Vanessa Wyche, director of NASA Johnson, remarked, "This class embodies America’s best and brightest, leading us into a new Golden Age of exploration!"
