Nabers emphasized he was merely trying to ignite the offense, saying, "The lights were on, the game was on, it was time to play. I was trying to get people rolling." However, he acknowledges that his passionate demeanor was misread, noting, "I have an ‘NBF’—a natural bitch face—and that’s just how I am. I guess I need to smile more."

Although Nabers believes the incident was exaggerated, he understands its significance and has since discussed sideline conduct with Daboll.
