AECOM Takes the Helm on Hong Kong's Shanghai–Shenzhen Rail Connection!

In a groundbreaking move, AECOM, in collaboration with AtkinsRéalis, has landed a major consultancy contract to lead the Hong Kong segment of the highly anticipated Hong Kong–Shenzhen Western Rail Link. This project, awarded by the Highways Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, aims to revolutionize transport between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

Connecting Regions: A Step Towards Greater Bay Area Integration

This vital railway initiative forms a cornerstone of the Northern Metropolis Development Strategy and aligns with broader objectives for enhancing connectivity in the Greater Bay Area. Once completed, the sleek railway link will allow direct transit between Hung Shui Kiu and Qianhai in just about 15 minutes—significantly boosting the ease of travel across this bustling region.

Creating a One-Hour Living Circle!

The rail connection is designed to foster a seamless 'one-hour living circle' in the Greater Bay Area, enhancing cross-boundary commuting, economic integration, and accessibility. Mark Southwell, AECOM's chief executive of global Transportation, expressed enthusiasm saying, 'We’re excited to support the Highways Department in expanding Hong Kong's world-class railway network, enhancing regional mobility for all.'

A Comprehensive Plan for Modern Infrastructure

The consultancy agreement includes meticulous planning, thorough investigation, design, and construction support for the approximately 7.3-kilometre Hong Kong section. This segment runs from Hung Shui Kiu right to the Shenzhen border. The broader railway will stretch approximately 18.1 kilometres in total, with 10.8 kilometres housed within Shenzhen's boundaries, seamlessly integrating with existing metro systems in both cities.

Innovative Technology for Efficient Project Delivery

To ensure cutting-edge collaboration on this ambitious project, AECOM and AtkinsRéalis will implement a Common Data Environment (CDE) combined with a unified Building Information Modeling (BIM) platform. This innovative approach promises streamlined communication and effective delivery across all phases of construction.

Stay tuned as this transformative project unfolds, promising a brighter, more connected future for thousands!
