We considered continuing with her style for this installment; however, with the development moving to Acquire, we decided to take a new direction and collaborate with a different talent." Ohashi, another key developer, pointed out Sakamoto's prior experience with Nintendo, particularly as the head of music for "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate." His familiarity with the development team made for smooth communication, especially since he had already collaborated with Ohashi on "What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord?" "That project had an amazing ending theme, and we knew we were setting high expectations for Sakamoto and myself," Otani recalled.

Otani admitted that the challenge intensified when legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto reviewed the game. "Miyamoto expressed that the music was too ordinary," Otani revealed, acknowledging that his feedback was indeed valid.

This critique pushed Sakamoto and Otani to deeply explore what makes Mario music so distinctive and lively. They painstakingly experimented, striving to infuse the soundtrack with the essence that fans have come to love.

"I wanted the music to have a heightened sense of liveliness, with more brass and percussion elements," he explained. "Once I communicated that vision, I entrusted Sakamoto and Ohashi with the task, and they delivered a soundtrack that truly embodies that 'Mario-ness.'”
