The Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macao has made a significant move to elevate the local film and television industry by participating in the prestigious Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART) 2025. From March 17 to 20, 2025, the event will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, attracting industry practitioners from all over the globe.

At this year’s FILMART, Macao has proudly set up the "Macao Pavilion," an initiative aimed at promoting the region's film and television services. With the objective of attracting more filmmakers and production houses to shoot in Macao, this initiative is expected to create new opportunities for the local industry. The pavilion will showcase the unique characteristics of Macao, leveraging its rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes as backdrop options for filmmakers.

The participation is organized by local departments alongside representatives from the film and television industry, signaling a united front to elevate Macao’s entertainment sector. One of the highlights of the event will be an informative session regarding the "Subsidy Programme for Cinematographic and Television Filming in Macao," designed to incentivize filmmakers to consider Macao as their filming destination. This is part of a broader strategy to bolster the local economy and contribute to the growth of the creative sector.

The opening ceremony on March 17 served as a landmark occasion, attended by notable figures including Leong Wai Man, President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and Stephen Liang, Assistant Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. Leong emphasized the significance of Macao's involvement in FILMART as a crucial step in promoting its film services and broadening its market influence.

Entities from Macao taking part in this initiative include the Cultural Development Fund, various production companies such as Free Dream Films and Macao Wing Chon Film Ltd., showcasing that the region is not only seeking to attract external filmmakers but is also nurturing its home-grown talents and projects.

With FILMART being the largest cross-media and cross-sectoral trade fair in Asia, Macao aims to harness this platform to leave a lasting impression on industry leaders, hoping that its enchanting landscapes and cinematic potential will inspire a new wave of film and television projects.

Stay tuned as Macao emerges as an alluring destination for film and television, promising vibrant stories made within its captivating borders!
