In a staggering move that’s shaking the football world, Liverpool has reportedly clinched a Premier League record transfer for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

While Newcastle's hefty asking price was close to $202 million, Liverpool hasn't strayed far from that mark, reportedly agreeing to a fee of nearly $170 million, as confirmed by Sky Sports.

Isak is slated to undergo a medical examination on Monday before signing a lucrative six-year deal with the Reds.

At just 25, Isak had already made it abundantly clear that a return to Newcastle was off the table; his sights were firmly set on Anfield, effectively limiting Newcastle's options. Meanwhile, the Magpies have shifted their focus to Stuttgart's Nick Woltemade, a talented striker yet to prove himself in the Premier League but with a skill set reminiscent of Isak.

With Isak joining the ranks, Liverpool's summer transfer expenditure has soared to nearly $570 million, comprising two record-breaking signings that eclipse the previous benchmark set when they acquired Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

In contrast, the Reds have also offloaded assets worth around $260 million, with Darwin Nunez heading to Saudi Arabia and Luis Diaz making a beeline for Bayern Munich.

What does Isak’s transfer mean for Liverpool?

For starters, the Merseysiders are now the clear favorites to clinch the Premier League title, elevating their status as serious contenders in every competition, including the UEFA Champions League.

Isak, primarily a center forward, boasts versatility that allows him to seamlessly drift across either wing, akin to Liverpool's new striker, Hugo Ekitike, who was ironically linked with Newcastle earlier in the window.

Last season, Isak showcased his prowess by netting 23 goals and providing six assists in 34 Premier League outings, including three goals in the League Cup. Impressively, he scored key markers against formidable teams like Chelsea, Arsenal, and even Liverpool in the final, helping the Magpies end their long trophy drought.

Known for his elite finishing, dribbling skills, and rapid pace, Isak excels at progressing the ball and creating scoring opportunities, but it's his knack for scoring that truly sets him apart.
