The New York Liberty are holding onto hope as they gear up for Game 2 of their playoff series against the Mercury, despite a cloud of uncertainty surrounding superstar Breanna Stewart.

After suffering a knee injury during Sunday’s overtime win, Stewart's availability for Wednesday's crucial matchup is still unknown. Coach Sandy Brondello revealed that Stewart will be a game-time decision but added a sense of optimism, stating the injury isn't severe enough to sideline her for the playoffs.

An MRI conducted on Monday showed "relatively clean" results, offering a glimmer of hope for her swift return. "We want to ensure she’s good to go. The extra day of recovery is beneficial," Brondello mentioned, looking ahead.

During Tuesday’s practice, Stewart was observed wearing a sleeve on her injured leg but did not partake in drills. Her emotional response after the injury was palpable, as she was seen on the sidelines in tears.

The Liberty, determined to secure their chance at back-to-back championships, are bracing for the game regardless of Stewart's participation. "We need to be prepared whether Stewie is in or out. We’re ready for any scenario," Brondello emphasized.

This season, the Liberty have dealt with a series of player absences, including Stewart missing 13 games earlier due to a prior knee issue. Their resilience has been tested, yet the team remains focused and prepared.

Teammate Sabrina Ionescu commented on their mindset, stating that adaptability has become second nature, thanks to their challenging regular season.

In an earlier performance, Stewart shined with 18 points, six rebounds, and four assists, proving her vital role on the court. As Game 2 approaches, teammates like Satou Sabally are predicting Stewart's comeback, but stress the importance of readiness either way.
