In a surprising turn of events, Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts was notably absent from the team's inaugural OTA practice on Tuesday.

According to team reporter Terrin Waack, Pitts is not the only player missing from the essential practice; however, his absence raises eyebrows as he enters the final year of his rookie contract.

At just 24 years old, Pitts has seen a fluctuating career since being drafted. The Falcons activated his fifth-year option last spring, ensuring a hefty payout of $10.878 million in 2025. This raises questions about his commitment, especially considering the uncertainty surrounding his absence.

In his stunning rookie season of 2021, Pitts caught 68 passes for over 1,000 yards and found the end zone once. Yet, his performance has dipped in recent years. Last season, he managed only 47 receptions for 602 yards and four touchdowns over 17 games, toting a mere 62 percent participation in offensive snaps.

Notably, since his explosive rookie year, Pitts has yet to hit the 100-yard mark in a single game, causing concern for Falcons fans and management alike.

And the absences don’t stop with Pitts. Other key players missing from Tuesday's practice include receiver Ray-Ray McCloud III, linebacker Troy Andersen, outside linebacker Bralen Trice, offensive tackle Kaleb McGary, and defensive lineman Morgan Fox.

With key players sidelined, the Falcons have crucial decisions to make as they prepare for the upcoming season. What does Pitts' absence mean for the team's offensive strategy moving forward? Only time will tell.
