In a dramatic showdown, food delivery riders for Keeta, a platform under Meituan, took to the streets on May 10, 2025, protesting against unfair wage policies that have severely slashed their earnings.

Passion in the Streets of Tsuen Wan

Approximately 40 riders rallied in Tsuen Wan, brandishing striking signs with slogans like "WAGE CUT SCAM," "BOYCOTT KGO," and "STABLE FEE & FAIR PAY." The demonstration spotlighted their grievances over continuous drops in payment per delivery since May, dramatically affecting their financial stability.

The Harsh Reality of Pay Rates

According to an open letter shared in the Facebook group "KeeTa外賣關注組," these riders revealed shocking pay rates: currently, earnings per order sink below HK$38 during off-peak hours and HK$45 during busier times. For double orders, the rates aren't any better, with amounts dipping under HK$55 and HK$65, while many in Tsuen Wan report receiving no peak hour subsidies at all.

Criticism of the 'K GO' Dispatch System

Riders also lashed out at Keeta's controversial "K GO" priority dispatch system. They argue that it coerces them into accepting lower wages for priority deliveries, fostering a toxic environment of "downward competition" among workers.

Demands for Change

In response to these grievances, the Tsuen Wan riders have vowed to strike during peak hours, demanding a wage increase to exceed HK$43 per order and no less than HK$80 for double orders during slower times, alongside the implementation of subsidies during high-demand hours.

Keeta Responds to the Strike

When pressed for a response, Keeta acknowledged the riders' right to peaceful protest but emphasized that delivery services would continue as usual. The company expressed gratitude to the dedicated riders still fulfilling their roles across various districts.

Understanding the Pay Structure

Keeta explained that delivery fees are influenced by several factors, including the time spent on service, delivery distance, and market demand. They offer various order models and incentives to encourage riders to accept jobs, noting that successful riders can earn monthly rewards exceeding HK$8,000, with over 90% of active riders benefiting from these incentives.

Commitment to Rider Protection

The company reassured its commitment to improving rider protection, recently enhancing insurance coverage for delivery-related accidents from HK$550,000 to HK$1 million since April.

A Call for Dialogue

Keeta stated its openness to feedback from delivery riders, highlighting their established communication mechanisms that include regular meetings and direct support via messaging platforms, thereby ensuring ongoing engagement with their workforce.
