This thrilling event not only highlighted the prowess of athletes from Kazakhstan, Japan, and Hong Kong China but also served as a proving ground for orienteering enthusiasts across the region.

Diverse Terrains and Formats

Competitors navigated through diverse terrains, ranging from the northern area's challenging contours with intricate gullies to the southern flatlands ideal for faster pacing. The competition unfolded in two exhilarating formats: the middle distance and team relay.

Women's Middle Distance Success

Kazakhstan made headlines as Nazyrova Assem secured the gold in the women’s middle distance category, finishing with an impressive lead of 1:24 minutes over Japan's Natsuki Yamagishi. Hong Kong China’s Ying Yau Chu followed closely, making the podium even more competitive with her third-place finish.

Men's Middle Distance Dominance

Japanese athletes dominated the men’s middle distance, sweeping the top five positions. Itsuki Ito emerged victorious, showcasing his skill with a decisive time advantage of 2:42 minutes ahead of his fellow countryman, Hiroki Komaki, while Yuichi Honjo rounded out the top three.

Junior and Youth Categories

In an equally thrilling display, Japan didn't just shine in the senior categories but also excelled in the junior and youth championships, winning medals in the W20, W18, M20, M18, and M16 categories. Only the W16 class saw a standout performance from China.

Opportunities for Champions

What’s at stake for the champions? As individual victors, Nazyrova Assem and Itsuki Ito have secured their spots in the upcoming World Orienteering Championships in Finland later this summer. Furthermore, both Yuichi Honjo and Ying Yau Chu will represent their nations at next year’s Sprint World Orienteering Championships in Italy—a remarkable opportunity for these talented athletes.

Relay Events

The relay event concluded dramatically with Hong Kong China's women's team, featuring Cho Yu Lam, Brenda Hau Wah Chan, and Ying Yau Chu, claiming gold after a fierce final leg that saw them overtake Kazakhstan's silver-winning team. Japan’s second squad clinched bronze, showcasing the depth of talent within their ranks.

In the men's relay, Japan once again asserted their dominance, leaving competitors trailing by over five minutes. Kazakhstan secured the silver, while Hong Kong China claimed another bronze.
